Organization fun!!!

I'm about 34 weeks now and nesting has hit full force!  My brain has SO many things it wants to do...unfortunately I can't keep up but I can get little projects done.  One of the projects is jewelry organization.  I'm not much of a jewelry girl but I do have some and was using a jewelry tree for my necklaces & bracelets.  It worked ok but took up space on the dresser and just looked cluttered.  I've been eyeballing these frames turned jewelry organizers for awhile and today I FINALLY made mine!

All I did was get a frame at Hobby Lobby (I could have found one at the thrift store and painted it but I just don't have the energy or time to go treasure hunting right now).  Thankfully I had my handy 40% off coupon for my frame!!  Then I got some quilting batting & some muslin...I just got 1/2 a yard and I have a bunch leftover...I'm thinking Christmas gifts!!!  I measured and predrilled my little holes for the hooks, hot glued the batting & muslin down, then screwed in the hooks.  Viola!  A beautiful necklace holder that doesn't take up any dresser space!!  (and a sad tid bit...we've lived in our house for almost 6 years and this is the first thing I've hung on that wall!)

See ya summer...HELLO fall!!!

It's been a crazy and kind of awful summer and I'm so glad to see it go.  My aunt became very ill (and very unexpectedly) and we almost lost her back in July.  The greatest birthday present I could have ever received was NOT having to plan her funeral.  (we got the call 2 days before my birthday that she wouldn't make it through the day.  It was the worst call I've ever received)  The Lord has truly had His hand on her and she's improving little by little each day.  SO thankful she's still here and praying for her during this long and difficult recovery process.

The pregnancy nausea pretty much did me in all summer...even now at 25 weeks I'm still dealing with it, although thankfully it's much better.  Then the heat...that wonderful heat we've all been putting up with has been terrible.  Being severely nauseous + 100* temps = very very sick me.  Yall...I used to want nothing more than to live on the beach.  This summer killed that dream.  So with all that going on...goodbye and good riddance summer!

Last Friday I put up the fall decorations.  It may be a little early, but I'm excited to welcome fall!  I'm excited about football (ROLL TIDE!!!), cooler weather, the holidays, school for the girls, the smells and colors of autumn and of course...getting closer and closer to meeting our newest baby girl!

The girls start Mother's Day Out tomorrow.  Kenley should have started Tuesday but power outages canceled school.  I can't believe this is her last year of MDO and certainly can't believe my little baby Taylor starts her first year!!  Thankfully tomorrow morning will be busy so I won't have time to cry!

My mom and I have slowly started fall shopping...and next week I'll hit up my BIG consignment sale and hopefully score some good fall/winter wardrobes for the girls.  All 3 of them.  Wow it still hits me that we're about to have 3 girls. 

And because any post is more fun with pictures, here's a sweet picture of the girls' new shoes!  Even Jelly Bean got a pair!!  I love this picture!!

6 Years!!

On August 6th, we celebrated our 6 year wedding anniversary!  It's hard to believe 6 years have gone by already!  Unfortunately on the day of our anniversary, I was second shooting a wedding so we had to put off our dinner plans for a bit...but we did enjoy watching our wedding DVD that night when I got home!  It was so much fun going back to that special day...watching us exchange vows and making a lifetime commitment to each other.  The Lord has truly challenged us and blessed us over these 6 years...and I have loved it all!  It's amazing how much more you love your spouse as time goes on and you build your life together!

Thursday I got a text from my sweet husband (who had been out of town for work all week) that I needed to be packed and ready to go out of town for the weekend by early Friday afternoon!  I literally cried when I received his text...we haven't been out of town together since Sept '07 and we have never been out of town for our anniversary, so to say I was excited is a huge understatement!!!

Friday I dropped the girls off with my in-laws and impatiently waited for my husband to get home so we could start our weekend!  When he got home, he still wouldn't tell me where we were going, but I didn't care...we were about to have a whole weekend just the 2 of us!!!!  We ended up heading to Chattanooga!  He had the whole weekend planned out!  We stayed in a nice hotel in downtown Chattanooga that was walking distance to all kinds of restaurants & the aquarium!

Friday night we went to dinner at Big River then enjoyed dessert at Ben & Jerry's!  My sweet husband knows how much I crave B&J's when I'm pregnant and had planned our trip there!!  There was a baseball game that night next to our hotel so we got to enjoy the fireworks from our hotel!

Saturday we had a very nice breakfast at our hotel...they had AMAZING french toast...then we headed to the aquarium!  We wanted to do Rock City but it was just too hot and I was exhausted so we headed back to the hotel and took a nap!  Then we got ready to go have our 2 week belated anniversary dinner at Easy Bistro and Bar!

Sunday we enjoyed another breakfast at the hotel (I'm telling you, the french toast was AMAZING!!) then we went to Ruby Falls!!  Hiking for a mile while pregnant isn't so bad when you're in a cool, dark cave!

Happy 6 year Anniversary to us!!!!!

This was such a wonderful weekend!  I'm so very thankful for my loving & thoughtful husband for putting this all together and making our anniversary so special!!  I'm truly blessed to have such an amazing man for my husband and to have him as the father of our children!  These have been an amazing 6 years and I look forward to the rest of our lives together!!

That's a beautiful verse and something I try to do each day...but must admit I have been failing to do as of late.  This heat...it's made a difficult summer even more difficult.  Even though I'm grateful for each day and for all my blessings...whew it's easy to be grumpy when you're drenched in sweat, pregnant & still struggling with nausea and carting 2 kids around. 

It's been a hot summer for most of us...which is why when I walked outside this morning, I stopped in my tracks and felt it.  The slightest hint of fall.  The high today was 87* and felt amazing!!  My dad and step-mom came over for a play date with the girls and we actually got to enjoy our backyard and the girls' new swing-set!!!  We spent the whole morning outside playing on the swing-set, playing chase, swimming in the pool (little plastic pool but still...a pool!)  It was wonderful!

I wish I had been good and got the camera out to get pictures but we were having too much fun playing!  Here's a picture of the swing-set the day it was FINALLY completed.  It's been sitting there for about a month waiting to be played on but it's just been too hot.

I know fall is a long way off (cooler weather-wise) but I was SO grateful for the little reminder today that it's coming.  I'm so grateful to have had such a beautiful day with family and to create those special memories.  

Our newest family member...

Yep...we found out Friday, July 22nd that our sweet jelly bean is a GIRL!!!  We're going to have three little girls!!!  While I would have been just as ecstatic about having a son, I LOVE the thought of 3 sisters...especially since they're all so close in age!  The best thing about that appointment was seeing her move and seeing that she is healthy.  Praise the Lord for another healthy check-up!  She did, however, not give us a good shot of her sweet face (just like Taylor) so we get to have another ultrasound at our next appt!!!  Woo hoo!!!

Our NEW Media Cabinet

Due to the pregnancy...the awful 24/7 nausea to be specific...several projects have been on hold for the past few months.  Now that the nausea is easing up a bit, I'm starting to get some things done.  Awhile back my mom gave us the 'country cabinet' (as we affectionately call it) and I had great plans to re-do the doors and paint/distress it.  It was going to look amazing...but it never got done.  It sat there in all it's country glory, but it was ok b/c it wasn't a focal point in the room...just some storage off to the side.  Then last Christmas we got a new recliner and had to move it...right next to the fireplace for all the world to see.  It served a purpose but it was big and the hearts just aren't my style.  Fast forward to April...while out driving, the girls and I spot a HUGE yard sale.  I be-bop myself right on over and find the perfect little cabinet to replace the country cabinet.  I knew exactly what color I wanted it and knew I could find some perfect knobs at Hobby Lobby.  For $30, that cabinet was MINE!

Got it home and got the 2 coats of paint on.  Had my knobs and had my polycrylic waiting to go.  Then, it hit.  The lovely nausea.  So there sat my perfect new cabinet in the garage for the next few months.  July 4th weekend we stayed in town due to an illness in the family and since we were home, we decided to work on some projects.  I busted out my cabinet and got to work.  2 days later, it found it's new home in our living room and we LOVE it!!!  It's prefect!  It doesn't compete with the fireplace & TV anymore and adds a fun pop of color!  And it only cost $35 total (I used paint I already had and used a gift card for my polycrylic)!!!!

Little by little the living room is coming together...FINALLY!!  See the lovely red brick?  It's days are numbered.  It will be antique white soon and I hope the walls will be next!!!

NEW PILLOWS!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been drooling over this fabric for months now.  This fabric ties everything in my living room together and I finally ordered it today!  It's coming from Canada so it'll probably be around 2 weeks before it gets here...but I'm SO excited!!!!  I cannot wait to make my new throw pillows!!!!

My next project in the living room...painting the red brick white and FINALLY hanging pictures on the blank wall.  When I say finally...we've been in this house for 5.5 years and I've never had anything hanging on this wall.  We're also saving up for a new sleeper sofa and loveseat!!!  It's so exciting to finally work on our poor living room :o)

A letter to my doodlebug on her THIRD birthday

My dear Kenley,
As I'm typing this it's 12:43 pm...3 years ago today you were 2 minutes old.  The past three years seem like a blur at times because you're growing up so fast!!  Your Daddy and I love you so very much and love watching who you are becoming!!!

As I said in your sister's letter, your father and I pray that you will be a Godly woman.  Someone who has a gentle, kind and loving spirit.

"You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfailing beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God." 1 Peter 3:4 

I just think that is such a beautiful verse especially in today's world.  My sweet girl, much too soon you are going to be bombarded with the pressure of society and culture.  Ignore it.  Fight it.  Live for the Lord and seek HIS wisdom and strength.  Seek to be a beautiful woman on the inside who loves the Lord and puts others first.

"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised." Proverbs 31:30

• Sweet baby girl...you are at an age where you want to do everything by yourself and you LOVE to help.  
• You don't ride in the buggy at the store because you want to walk like a big girl.  It's so precious to see how you're growing and so heart warming that you have a heart that wants to help and often do so without us asking.
• You're so loving toward your baby sister...it melts my heart to watch you with her.
• You're talking SO much and learning your Bible verses...just growing up so fast!!
• Your favorite thing to do is wear your tu-tu and dress up shoes just like a ballerina!  You love to watch Angelina ballerina and dance just like her!
• You LOVE being outside playing & swimming.  
• You've been potty trained for 6 months now!  (That doesn't seem possible!!)

The years are going by so quickly and they're only going to speed up.  Don't be in a rush to grow up too fast, darling.  Enjoy your precious childhood.  Enjoy being a little girl.  Know that you're the big sister and your little sister and future brother/sister will look up to you.  Those are big shoes to fill but so far, you're doing an amazing job!

A letter to my sweet Taylor on her first birthday

Dear sweet, precious Taylor,
The night before you were born, I couldn't sleep.  I was so ready to see your sweet face, hold your precious hands and touch your tiny feet, I just stayed up filled with excitement.  You came into this world at 7:14am on June 9th and have been such a blessing ever since that joyful morning.

Since the day you were born you had a gentleness about you.  We call you sweet Taylor because of your sweet nature.  We picked this verse for your infant baptism and these words so perfectly say what your father and I want to say.  We pray that you will be a loving, Godly woman who lets her light shine for Jesus and cares deeply for others.

My dear Taylor, you've grown so much this year.  Your beautiful smile can light up a room. You are learning to walk...every time you take some steps your beam with excitement.  You're loving...you love your big sister so very much and it's so amazing watching you two.  You love to sit in my lap and play.  I like to think it's because you want to cuddle...but I probably just make a comfy chair!  You love to clap and wave.  You LOVE to snuggle with your blankie at nap and bedtime.  You hold your arms out behind you and wrap your blanket around you...it's so very precious!  You love sucking your thumb.  The paci didn't stand a chance against your thumb.  Your favorite toy...isn't a toy.  It's your big sister's green anywhere chair.  You love it!  You have a tender heart and a joyous laugh.  I can't wait to see you grow and see who you will become.

A year ago I made a video of pictures from the day you were born and the first couple of weeks.  The song I chose is titled "Hold to Jesus."  My sweet Taylor, if there is one thing I want for you in this life, is that you will hold onto Jesus and be His.  These words are our prayer for you sweetheart

A year ago today we welcomed our sweet Taylor into our family.  I cannot believe a year has gone by already!!  It's been such a fun year and she has been such a joy in our lives!!

A few months ago I signed up to teach a class at Vacation Bible School...so that's how we started the day.  Taylor's nursery teachers made sure it was a special day though!  She had a birthday crown with her name on it and a sweet message from her teachers.  After VBS we came home and the girls napped while I got started on birthday dinner plans.  I decorated the kitchen, cleaned and baked her cake.  In the middle of all that I stopped to get the mail and she had a few birthday cards.  As I sat there and read the sweet notes from family, I teared up thinking about our sweet baby...still in disbelief that this year has gone by so fast.

Taylor's birthday dinner was special...breakfast casserole.  Why is that special?  Well there's the whole "no eggs until 1" rule and this poor child has been drooling over eggs the past few months.  So tonight...she finally had her eggs and she LOVED them!!!  By the time we got around to cake she wasn't really interested...she was ready for bed.  As I put her in her crib and gave her a hug, I just melted.  She hugged me back and smiled.  What a precious miracle....what a precious blessing.  Thank you Lord for this sweet girl!!!

Happy Memorial Day

I am a double Air Force brat.  Both of my parents served in the United States Air Force for 20+ years and my mother served in Desert Storm.  I'm very proud of both of them and have a huge love for our military.  Today is such a special day...a day set aside to remember our veterans.  Please at some point today, while you celebrate with family and friends, take a moment to remember those who serve our country and provide the freedom we all love and enjoy.

GOD bless America and our troops!!  THANK YOU to all our troops,  past, present and future, for your selfless service to our country!!

Books books books

If you're like our family...your kids have TONS of books!! It's a good problem to have but it also makes for a rather big mess if you don't have great storage for all those books.  A friend of mine recently blogged about 2 great solutions for book storage and I have to share!

Idea #1: IKEA spice racks!!!!  They're super affordable and can be painted any color!!!

Idea #2 (this is my favorite!) Fabric shelves!!!

With our new addition on the way, I'm in the beginning phases of bedroom planning.  Taylor will be moving into Kenley's room and they'll be getting a bunk bed!!  Kenley is super excited about her bunk bed!!  Between the 2 of them, we have a lot of books and now I have 2 great ideas for storage!!!   I can't wait to get started on their new room :o)

Surprise!!

So I haven't posted in awhile but I have a good reason...we got quite a surprise in our Easter baskets this year!!

Yep, that's right!  The Southern family is expecting a new addition...making us a family of FIVE!!!  FIVE!!!  It still hasn't sunk in 100%!!

We found out Wednesday April 20th...right before Easter and we're due December 22nd.  So in the spirit of these two special holidays...we tied them both into the announcement for our families.  We had Kenley color a picture for each of her grandparents...something she normally does then printed off a little poem.  We folded the poems inside her masterpieces and placed them in Easter eggs.  Here's the poem:

Our families were as surprised as we were and everyone is excited about our Christmas arrival!!!  When I told Kenley she is going to be a big sister again she said "Yay!!!!!!"

As usual with me and pregnancy I have been feeling pretty awful.  The nausea hit hard at 6wks 4days and hasn't let up.  I'm thankful for healthy pregnancies but wish the nausea wasn't so bad and didn't last so long.

We should find out if its a boy or girl right around our 6 year anniversary!!! We are so excited about this new miracle and cannot wait to welcome him/her into our family!!

12 Days of Easter

A friend tagged me in this on Facebook and I just LOVE this idea and had to share:

I saw this on a blog and thought it was something I would give a try. I am all for SIMPLE.. This seems "do able"~First you gather 12 different plastic eggs and then you number them 1-12.  When the eggs are filled, you will be placing them either in an empty egg carton or a basket.
In each egg you will put a piece of paper with a scripture on it.  You will also add a small item to represent the passage to be read.  (If you have more than one young child, you might want to put double or triple the number of items in every egg so each child can each take something away from the activity.)

The 12th egg, though, will be symbolically empty to represent the empty tomb when Jesus rose on the third day.

The terrible tragedy of the tsunamis & earthquakes are heartbreaking.  I can only imagine how terrible and frightening it is to experience something so horrific.  It breaks my heart when anyone has to endure such catastrophic events.  Even as a believer I sometimes ask God why things like this happen.  I'll never know 'why' on this side of eternity, I just have to trust Him.  The only answer and only comfort is that He is in control of all things and uses good and bad for His purpose. 

My heart and prayers go out to everyone who has been affected by these recent events.

Life Lately

Our sweet teeny, tiny Taylor turned 9 months old Wednesday. I just cannot believe our sweet little girl is NINE months old!  She has 2 shiny bottom teeth, she's crawling like a champ, she's pulling up and standing and she loves to climb!!!  She's starting to eat a little bit of table food...in teeny tiny bites of course!  At her doctor appt Wednesday she weighed in at 16lbs 1ox...4 lbs lighter than her big sister at this age!!  She still fits in some of the 3-6 month clothes!  She LOVES to high five!  She has an infectious smile that brightens the room and draws people near her.  Her laugh is truly precious and her personality is still so gentle and content.  She is an absolute angel!!!  Here's a little picture of our sweet-T

Kenley is truly the best big sister.  When Taylor cries, Kenley is quick to bring Taylor's favorite toys and soothes her saying "It's ok...mommy is here."  Kenley will sit and play with Taylor and is so sweet to tell Taylor she loves her.  I love watching them together and know it will be a true joy to see their relationship as they grow up.

Tonight we are grilling out burgers and hopefully enjoying our little backyard...one of our favorite activities as a family.  When it gets too dark or a little too chilly, we'll come in and watch the Cosby Show together...something Kenley has really gotten into and we couldn't be more thrilled!!  We may even make chocolate chip cookies from scratch.  A perfect evening!!

My first wedding is tomorrow and then again on Sunday.  I'm so nervous and excited and it means the world to me to know my husband is cheering for me.  He has been SO supportive of my new photography venture and I couldn't do it without his support, encouragement and enthusiasm...he's such a blessing! 

I've signed up for another 5k at the end of the month.  Running is something I NEVER thought I would do.  I totally used to think people who ran were a little crazy...but that's because I'm lazy and have asthma...not a good combination for a runner.  I have to say though...I've really been enjoying it lately!!!  I'm doing the couch to 5k and I just finished week 2!!  I've been trying to do this for a couple of years and I've never made it this far (remember what I said earlier about the lazy)  I'm totally excited and can't wait for my next 5k!!!

BIG Announcement!!

So I've been sitting on this news since January because honestly, it was just too good to be true!!  It's been long enough...time to make the announcement...

On January 1st I got an offer from J Messer Photography to be her assistant/second shooter!!!  This is EXACTLY what I wanted to do with my photography and I'm so unbelievably excited to be working with someone so talented!!!

My first wedding with her is March 12th!!!  I'm so excited and can't wait to kick off the wedding season!!

I'm pleating!!!!!!!

Having little girls in the South means they have to wear precious little smocked bishops.  Thanks to my "Do-it-yourself" nature, I wanted to learn how to smock...plus you can save a little when you make them yourself.  So 2 years ago I decide that I'm going to smock Kenley's Easter dress.  [It was a huge undertaking b/c I decided this kinda late in the game]  A dear friend, Ellen, sat with me at lunch one day and taught me the basics and my amazing mother-in-law (MIL) 'put the dress together' and Kenley had a beautiful handmade smocked Easter dress.

My love for smocking has only grown.  I seriously love it!  I love seeing my girls in those precious dresses and I love knowing that I made it for them.  Now I know how to put together my own bishop and [again thanks to my MIL] I can now PLEAT my own dresses!!!! 

Why is this a big deal?  Well pleating the dress costs about $15-17.  Multiply that by 2 and that means I'm spending roughly $30 just to have the dress pleated.  That does not include material, thread, smocking plate, etc.  By the time it's all said and done...you're really not saving that much making it yourself. 

MIL surprised me at Christmas with my very own pleater and I finally got the courage to give it a try today.  After doing some reading and watching a couple of videos I grabbed some spare fabric and turned the crank and successfully pleated for the first time!  I'm so excited!!!!  Now I can make dresses for my girls, gifts for friends and maybe over pleating services.

Valentine's Day was kind of a blur this year because we were all sick.  There were new teeth (all parents know how awful teething is), fevers, ear infections, runny noses, terrible coughs, etc.  But we still had a great time celebrating our family and taking a moment to show our love in fun, special ways.
